Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program

The purpose of the Leaders of Promise scholarship program is to provide new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in a two-year college in order to develop leadership potential through participation in Society programs. Leaders of Promise is the Society's first scholarship program available to members to be used during the time they are enrolled in their community colleges. A total of 30 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded based on applications submitted by members. To be eligible to apply, a student must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa in good standing and currently enrolled in an associate degree program, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on all associate degree coursework. Students who have completed no more than 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) of coursework as of January 31, 2008, ARE eligible to apply. Student with previous degrees are NOT eligible. All completed applications must be received (not postmarked) by April 25, 2008.

Selection Procedure

Applications will be available in January 2008. Complete applications should be received (and not postmarked) by April 25th, 2008, 5:00pm, CST. Independent judges will review applications and determine the Leaders of Promise scholarship recipients. Award winners will be notified by August 1, 2008.


Leaders of Promise Cash Awards and Participation Requirement Form

Thirty Leaders of Promise scholarship recipients will be named. A Leaders of Promise scholarship winner will receive a $1,000 cash stipend. The award will be disbursed in two equal payments of $500 per semester.

The first payment will be made once the student provides documentation of enrolling in a minimum of six semester credit hours at the community college. The second stipend will be paid once the student provides documentation of enrolling in a minimum of six semester credit hours, has successfully maintained a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and has met minimum participation requirements in his or her Phi Theta Kappa chapter as outlined in the Participation Requirement Form.
