Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Program
The College Life Committee seeks qualified students to apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This $30,000 scholarship is the largest offered in the to community college transfer students. Each student who applies should show academic ability and achievement, unmet financial need, a will to succeed, leadership and public service, critical-thinking ability, and an appreciation for or participation in the arts and humanities.
NCC students must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a current student with sophomore status by December 31, 2007, or be a recent graduate (since spring 2003).
- Have a cumulative college grade point average of 3.50 or better.
- Plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to begin studies in fall 2008, and
- Not have previously been nominated for the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

Click on the 'Scholarships' link, 'Undergraduate Transfer,' 'Application Materials,' and proceed to the online application. Each student will create their own application, but only two NCC students will be nominated by the College Life Committee. To be considered, every NCC student must complete at least one of the online essays. The essays on the application are:
- Select a piece of art, literature, music, or film written or created by someone other than yourself. Respond to it.
- Discuss your artistic development and how it relates to your academic interests. Refer to an individual, an author, a book, or an aesthetic experience that was instrumental in your artistic development.
- Write about an experience that has changed your perspective on or your attitude toward a personal, social, or political issue.
- Studies over the last 20 years have shown that academic dishonesty is on the rise in academic institutions across the United States. What might explain this increase? Suggest remedies and cite evidence to support your position.
- Briefly describe an important problem in contemporary American society. Discuss the conditions, changes, or events that have caused this problem. How would you solve this problem?
Deadline to begin the application and complete a least one essay is November 30th, 2007
Please note: For this deadline, financial data is not necessary.
Only two students are nominated by the College Life Committee to proceed with the full application. Those nominees will be selected at the beginning of December with the full application due January 27th, 2008
